By: Martin | May 23rd, 2009Stoke
Current Position: 11th, 12-9-16 (45 points, -14 goal differential)
Away Form: 2-4-12
Recent Form: WLLWW
Last Meeting: Stoke 2-Arsenal 1 (11/1/08)
Well, this is it. Tomorrow’s the last game of the season, and it’s anticlimactic to say the least. It’s a rematch with Stoke, and a chance to take revenge for the embarrassing loss we suffered to them in November. But I have to admit, Stoke has surprised a lot of people, me included. Raise your hand if you thought they’d be in 11th place at the end of the season. Keep them up if you’re lying. That’s what I thought.
I don’t have too much to say about the game–Arsenal has nothing at stake here. And practically, neither does Stoke. Stoke has been pretty awful on the road all season, but we’ll probably be playing a lot of second-teamers tomorrow. Still, it would be nice to end the season with a win in front of the home fans.
My best stab at a lineup:
Fabianski
Sagna-Toure-Djourou-Gibbs
Walcott-Fabregas-Song-Vela
Bendtner-Arshavin
I’ll be back with a recap/match review tomorrow or Monday, and then will have a multi-part “Season in Review” next week. Everyone have a good weekend. For those of you in the U.S., please take a moment on Memorial Day to remember the reason for the holiday and think of the sacrifices so many men and women made so that you and I are able to enjoy so many wonderful freedoms.
Come on Arsenal.
