Therapeutic Blogging
By: Homey | December 1st, 2011OK, so I’ll admit I’m not in my most cheerful of moods. I’ve been absent for the better part of this week, trying to see some justice done here in Hood County, Texas. But alas, what I got instead was a heavy dose of injustice in the courtroom, if I may say so myself. I won’t bore you all with the painful details, but what I really needed was 12 jurors from this soccer game in Portugal a few years ago:
Hopefully I can relax and blog a bit, and find my happy place again. It’s too bad that there’s not a ton of news to report on, and I’ve also been totally out of the loop for a while. I guess I could make note of the fact that Wojo vows to grow his hair long, in the style of Jan Tomaszewski (who could possibly forget him?), if Poland and England end up in the same group in next year’s Euros. So, yeah, it’s pretty important Arsenal news going around right now.
In something a little more worthy of mention, Frimpong seems to be hoping for a possible loan in January. That’s going to be the natural outcome of having quality depth, so it’s the proverbial “nice problem to have.” It took me a while to mull this one over, in terms of whether I think it’s a good idea. His quote alludes to his being behind Arteta and Ramsey, but I’m not sure Frimpong is really playing the same position. I know there can be some moving around in the center midfield, but Wenger pretty much always uses at least one true defensive midfielder. So from that standpoint, Frimpong is behind Song, and perhaps even with Coquelin. I don’t think he’s as buried on the bench as he may think. It’s just that Song has been healthy and playing well, and also has no prospect of playing in the African Cup of Nations.
In theory, Frimpong is one injury away from playing a ton. Still, I think I’ve been impressed enough with Coquelin to favor a loan of Frimpong in January. The Carling Cup is over, so opportunities will be a bit more limited. If we assume for a moment that Coquelin is ahead of Frimpong, then that puts “Dench” two injuries away from significant playing time. And in a pinch, Wenger could still rotate in Diaby during those rare instances when he’s healthy. And while we haven’t seen it happen yet, I really think Vermaelen could be good there, playing in front of Koscielny and Mertesacker. So all in all, I think I’ll hope for a loan to a good club that needs a DM and will get Frimpong some playing time. Then maybe he’ll come back like Wilshere did from Bolton, ready to excel.
In other news, I see that the calendar has turned from November to December. That means we’re just a month away from the super exciting January transfer window! I’m not holding my breath for anything, of course, other than a couple of our players who look to be loaned out. But I suppose it’s my duty as a blogger to overreact to recent statements by Lukas Podolski, who called Arsenal a top club. So there, feel free to parse over that for now. I’m still enamored with a different German player, but you’ll have to read a previous blog for that discussion.
Alrighty, well I know this was short, pathetic, and not anything earth-shaking. But I feel a little happier now that I got to think about soccer and not about more serious problems in the world. So thanks for reading my therapeutic blogging. I’m sure someone will be by soon to preview our epic clash with Wigan. Until then…
