Thierry Henry, Champion
By: Martin | May 27th, 2009
I know it’s bittersweet, seeing as how it came in another team’s shirt, but I can’t help but feel really happy at the moment for Thierry Henry as he celebrates on the pitch at Stadio Olimpico. He is an Arsenal legend, voted as the greatest player ever to play for the club by by fan voting. 174 goals in 254 appearances, 2 league titles and 3 FA Cups in 8 seasons at Highbury. Think about it–what a career: he has now won the French, English (three times), and Spanish domestic cups; won the domestic league in France, England (twice), and Spain; won the World Cup and European Championship with France; and now has won the Champions League. If that’s not the resume of a true champion, I don’t know what is.
I’ll probably edit this post with a picture as soon as one finds its way to the interwebs, but for now, remember what a class act Thierry Henry was, with his goodbye message to Gunner fans:
What else can you say about the guy? Congratulations Thierry, you deserve this and we are all happy for you.

Oh, and I guess I should also add that Aleksander Hleb won a medal, too, although he didn’t particularly contribute anything to Barcelona’s season. Who would have thought that signing a guy who just likes to dribble around with the ball until someone takes it from him would be a bad signing for a team that prizes unselfish, passing football?
Snark aside, Hleb was a decent enough player for us, and I certainly bear him no antipathy. So congratulations to him, as well.

I am still gutted everytime I see him play for Barcelona. But, I cannot feel anything but joy for him, after everything he did for the club as much as I want to see him hold the trophy in an Arsenal kit, just to see him hold that trophy and cap off an epic career brought joy to my heart. Mr.Henry conragulations you are and will be a legend and I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for Arsenal over the years. VIVA LA HENRY!

Don’t forget one other ex-gunner, Sylvinho, who had a better game than Henry even.

What a spoiled brat winning everything imaginable.
Extremely ecstatic for my favorite Gunner of all time.
Had that opportunity gone in today I think I would have had a heart attack, one of the most reliable class finishers ever. His goal against Brazil WC 2006 is etched in my head forever. Perfect time for him to say goodbye and enjoy the success he’s had as a footballer.Posted from

I don’t think he is done. I can see him playing at least one more year in Spain and then head to the US for a season or two.
