Thirteen
By: Martin | November 18th, 2009Well, it never ends. Apparently Aaron Ramsey has also picked up a knock on international duty, meaning we now have fully thirteen players injured.
If you’re curious, we have 29 players listed in our first-team. Which means we are only a few injuries away from having literally more than half our team injured. Maybe there’s something to this November curse after all.

Crappy. That doesn’t bode well for trying to displace Chelsea at the top of the table…
I read that LFC were down 14 players for one match, but I think some of those may have been suspensions…

29 in the first team, minus 13 injured, equals 16 players. start 11, leaving 5 for the bench. if my math is right, that leaves us 2 short of the possible 7 that are allowed on the bench for premiership games. thoughts on which 2 players wenger might promote from the reserves to take to sunderland on saturday?
also, arshavin makes an excellent shark:

vespo–well, and 3 of our healthy players are keepers, and I can’t see him putting 2 keepers on the bench. So, assuming that none of our “lucky 13″ make it back by Saturday, that would actually necessitate 3 reserves players getting called up.
I think Sanchez Watt definitely has to be one of them, given our lack of depth at the striker position–he’s been included in the squad a couple of times already this season, and could even actually be brought on as a sub late in the game. I’d also have to think Kerrea Gilbert would be included, since he’s got some experience and gives us cover at fullback. Other than that, I’m at a bit of a loss, but I’ll just take a stab and say Craig Eastmond–he’s very versatile in case of another injury, and he impressed in his Carling Cup start against Liverpool.

Martin, can you clarify Walcott’s status? Are you counting him among the injured or among the ones who will be in the lineup (or bench) this weekend?

Homey–I had been counting him among the injured, but it would be great if he were back. I imagine he’ll be on the bench and maybe come on as a sub at best, though, unless Wenger really feels like he’s 100%.

At the rate Chelsea players are getting injured, we could be seeing the Convalescent derby in a few weeks.
