Tony Adams Hired to Manage Again
By: Martin | May 11th, 2010Honestly, though, I’m not sure if this is more cause for celebration, laughter, or tears.
Tony Adams has been hired to manage . . . (drum roll, please) Gabala FC. Wait, what?
Who in the hell, you may ask, are Gabala FC? Apparently they are in the Azerbaijan Premier League. Where they currently sit 6th in the table.
Adams has signed a 3-year contract to manage the side, and said that his goal is to win the league during that time.
It sounds like a bit of a joke, doesn’t it? If you had substituted “Roy Keane” for Tony Adams I’d definitely be laughing. And despite his rough spells at both Wycombe and Portsmouth, I find it hard to believe that he couldn’t get a managerial position somewhere in England or Scotland.
But he’s still “Mr. Arsenal,” one of the club’s all-time greats, and I think in doing this he’s clearly showing an ongoing passion for the game. I certainly wish him nothing but well. But it seems like it’s a long road back to England from Azerbaijan.
