UEFA: Enough with the Whinging
By: Trent | October 18th, 2006UEFA have weighed in on Arsenal’s complaints following the 0-1 Champions League qualifying loss to CSKA Moscow. Firstly, the European football governing body will not entertain an appeal of Thierry Henry’s yellow card, which the Frenchman earned while complaining after his disallowed goal. Apparently, only an alleged case of mistaken identity would cause them to investigate a caution card incident.
Secondly, UEFA will not hear Arsenal’s complaint regarding the state of the pitch. A protest must be brought to the referee’s attention prior to the match, which was not done. “In Russia, according to this time of the year, it’s quite natural that a pitch is in this shape,” added a UEFA spokesperson. “It would have been different if the field had been used for a concert a few days before. In this case it is not something which concerns us.”
In other words, if Gorky Park had gigged there last weekend, Arsenal might have had a case.
