Upgrade. Upgrade. Seriously.
By: Abby | May 16th, 2008This will not happen. But I want it to, so I’m writing about it anyway.
Unreliable sources have us linked to Werder Bremen’s Diego as a replacement for Alex Hleb. As a fan of the Bundesliga, I have to say that, as much as I like Hleb, Diego is a serious upgrade to the Belarusian.
Basically, imagine Hleb- tricky, talented, creative, with very clever feet. Now, imagine him scoring goals. Lots of them. Stupifying ones. (Seriously, click on that.) Diego is an incredible player, just an utter delight to watch. Yes, he’s small, but he’s been succeeding in the Bundesliga, which, while mostly at a slower pace than the Premiership, it’s also a league where one has to be tough to survive. He’s not the type to be pushed around.
However, a lot of people have noticed that. Real Madrid, for example, have been known to be interested. As have Juventus. And Bremen will ask for a lot of money for their star player, especially after letting Miroslav Klose go last season and Tim Borowski on a free this one. But he is pretty amazing. And a signing of this magnitude would definitely be a statement of intent for next season- we’re here, we’re improving, and we’ve got a Zaubermaus.
It’s unlikely to happen. I’m guessing our name is being thrown around to raise his price for Madrid, Juventus, or another deep-pocketed club. But any time is a good time to watch some of his highlights.

I didn’t know Tim Borowski was leaving on a free.
And yeah, I doubt it’ll happen if Real or Juve are interested also. We don’t overspill money like they do.
