Weekend Update
By: travis | September 6th, 2008There’s a host of Arsenal players to keep your eyes on today. While Aaron Ramsey didn’t get on the pitch for Wales, backup keeper Lukasz Fabianski got the start in goal for Poland with Artur Boruc suspended? Or out of action. Regardless, they’ll be much more later on today/tomorrow. Here’s to a great (and boring) day of internationals, plus hoping for no injuries.
Rumors are heating up that Stephen Appiah, a midfielder from Ghana who is a free agent is being watched. And that doesn’t mean he’s being stalked, but rather being looked at by a number of EPL teams including Arsenal. He’d be a risk a la Amaury Bischoff, but a healthy Appiah could be a real boost. Injuries are the main reason for a amount of pessimism - if Rosicky, Diady, Bischoff were all healthy (and playing well), it might not be necessary for Eboue to play in the center of midfield.
Speaking of Bischoff, he seems to be on his way back to full fitness, although I’d give him another month. I don’t know anything about him, but another healthy body wouldn’t hurt.
A Sky Sports story has Cesc labeling a move to Manchester City as suicidal. That’s in response to the new owners spouting to the press their intention to buy just about every good player in the world, from Fernando Torres to a £135 million offer for Cristiano Ronaldo (wtf?). While the new owners are probably just having a laugh, they’re affect on the transfer market and fees will either be devastating or funny - see Real Madrid and the Galacticos. Good luck to those in the Middle Eastlands.

As a follower of African football I would be happy to see Appiah become a gunner. So what if he’s an injury risk??? How is that any worse than the rest of our midfielders?
