Well That’s a Fine Mess
By: Trent | March 28th, 2007Or should I say fined mess? The FA has decided to fine both Arsenal and Chelsea £100,000 in the wake of the Carling Cup final donnybrook. Both clubs had admitted to failing to keep their players under control.
The FA kept the fines equal, even though they thought that Arsenal held more of the blame. The FA explained: “Arsenal players had been marginally more involved in the incident, but that Chelsea had past proven cases in recent years regarding the general behaviour of their players where warnings had been issued.” Ok, then.
Of course, when Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough were disciplined for their melee last December, the original team fines totaled £12,000, so it’s good to see that sort of consistency in football administration.

Consistency? From the FA? As the English would say, surely you’re having a larf!

I personally like that it was a significant amount this time. It’s too bad that they had to keep it equal, since it did seem to me (a neutral fan) that Arsenal had more fault in it, but I’m glad of the amount. It was a ridiculous end to a good game and should not be tolerated.

Both Drogba and Essien punched Denilson and Fabregas and went unpunished. Adebayor doesn’t punch anyone and gets a 4-match ban.
