Wenger-san
By: Trent | February 6th, 2007Arsene Wenger has evidently convinced himself that he is partly Japanese. Apparently the sumo esthetic appeals to A-Dub’s inner Asian.
“I am a little bit Japanese in the control of emotion. In Sumo the winner never expresses his joy out of respect for the loser[.] Among other things, I learned this in Japan: Be measured in victory, do not seek to humiliate the loser. There is definitely some Japanese in me to the extent a Japanese considers it a dishonour if someone can think he is not giving the best of himself.”

Though he’ll never rival Jose Mourinho in my affections (for obvious reason), I’ve always been a fan of Wenger’s. His relative lack of playing experience (didn’t he play professionally only briefly, and at a low level?) and time in Japan are two of the reasons why, along with the above-mentioned emotional control.
Now if we could just get him to admit to seeing a foul. Just ONE FOUL …
