Where in the World is Jens Lehmann?
By: Trent | October 12th, 2007
Not physically, of course. Franz Beckenbauer long ago implanted a GPS chip in all German national team players. How else would we know where Michael Ballack is?
No, I mean, what’s his status with Germany, with Arsenal, and with his fellow players. For one, it seems as if he and Oliver Kahn have rekindled their flirting. Ollie got the ball rolling this time, lamenting that there would never be another keeper as good as the older starts or, well, him, again in the national team. Lehmann took exception, and accused the Bayern Munich No. 1 of self-glorification: “[Olvier] takes himself far too seriously and thinks that he is very important. I don’t like it when a man glorifies himself.”
Who knows if, despite the tough talk, Lehmann’s head will be in on straight when Germany takes on Ireland this weekend.
As for Lehmann’s spot as the starting keeper for the national team, German coach Joachim Loew has stated that Lehmann’s position is safe only as long as he remains Arsenal’s No. 1. As all Gunners supporters know, Lehmann’s continued absence in goal, and Manuel Alumnia’s continued good play between the pipes, puts all of that in jeopardy.
Said Loew: “I have told him that he remains our No. 1. But if his situation doesn’t change, we’ll need to talk. We need a goalkeeper with match practice.”
To emphasize the precariousness of the situation, national team general manager Oliver Bierhoff (man–he’s already the team’s general manager?) said that if Lehmann loses his job permanently to Alumnia, Mad Jens will need to look for another club.
So what do you think? Should Jens be allowed to look elsewhere come the January transfer window?

Yes. How do you drop a keeper that has only kept clean sheets.
Plus he causes disharmony in the dressing room.
