Who the Hleb knows?
By: travis | June 11th, 2008The ongoing saga of where Alexander Hleb will be next season contines. The most recent development is anger from the Belarusian, as he is upset over rumors of moving to Bayern Munich. This is an odd turn of events, considering Hleb seemed so determined to leave Arsenal, and the rumors probably have been started by someone affiliated with him (read: agent). In his defense, he has personally never come out to say anything official – most of the transfer speculation is fueled be either the Spanish media outlets, or various agents, who we all know to be the most trustworthy and honest people involved. His words (well, maybe they are his words) try to dismiss any notion of leaving:
So much is being speculated and said, but I just want to have some peace and sit down with my closest friend [and representative] Niki Spilevski to consider my future.
Will Hleb actually leave? It’s hard to say at this point. Would we miss him? I don’t know. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go or to see him remain with the club. While he may be discontent to an extent, I’m sure the reports are exagerrated. In terms of his contribution on the pitch, he’s a talented player, but the sparse number of goals he’s scored wouldn’t be missed.
