You Be the Captain / And I’ll Be No-One
By: Trent | July 19th, 2007
And you can carry me away, if you want to.
So even if Kasey Chambers is deferential, Arsene Wenger may need to settle the matter regarding the Arsenal Football Club in the next few weeks.
Entering last season, of course, Thierry Henry wore the armband. But he spent most of the year crocked, allowing Gilberto to do the honors. And this summer, you may have heard, Henry and his nipples left for sunny Spain.
Recently, young Cesc Fabregas has hinted that he’d love the responsibility of captaining the Gunners.
So who will it be? Who do you want it to be? Gilberto? Cesc? Kolo?
Update: No commenter wants Cesc, apparently. Evidently Arseblog agrees, fearing that the curse of Tony Adams may yet live.

I say Toure should be the guy. He’s in the right position, he’s a consistent performer, and he’ll be there long term. Let Cesc do his thing right now without any additional pressure.

Gilberto, no question. If it weren’t for him stepping up last year, they would have never finished fourth.
Kolo’s not pretty enough and Cesc is just a pony.

Definitely Kolo Toure. He has a long term future at Arsenal, whereas Gilberto may not. We’ve had enough upheaval and Kolo could glue us together with his enthusiasm and aggressive drive.

Gilberto is 30,Toure is 26 and fabregas is 20,so the best thing AW must do is give this armband to Toure why?Gilberto is as good as Toure but remember Wenger will consider the age and maybe he’s got if many two seaons with us and if given the armband then he’l leave us in a mess when he leaves so Toure is a long-term plan while fabregas is still somehow young to handle the presure so let’s give toure for the next 5 years then fab will take over if he will be there coz he’l be only 25.

Hey,
Welcome to the dawn of a new fantastic season under the leadership of everconsistent KOLO TOURE.GUNNER FOR LIFE

Kolo Toure is the best captain who will take Arsenal places.Fabregas should stop campaigning for this as he is too young and he has no experience that is required for captainship.

Gilberto or Kolo, definitely not Cesc. I love Cesc (he no “pony” - ridiculous comment) but he’s too young and not leadership material.

For now: gilberto to captain, toure as vice-capt during this transitional phase, and as soon as possible, toureup for captain.

Toure has to be the answer, when he wore the armband last season for a game, he was so excited and honored to wear it, he is a gunner for life and should wear it.

Gilberto, easy. The two players Arsenal cannot do without are Fabregas and Gilberto, but the Brazilian is far more experienced, and a good leader by example. If it’s necessary to keep Cesc happy, though, give him the armband . . . Gilberto won’t complain.

Gilberto. He’s a leader by example, and he keeps a level head on the pitch.
I think Cesc is realistic in knowing that he won’t be captain just yet, but it’s encouraging to know that he wants the responsibility at some point down the line. He’s quite mature for 20 as a player, but a few more seasons will bolster his ability to captain the team.

Gilberto good to lead the lads,he’s got alot in his Carrier as far as expirience is concerned, his record for both Arsenal and Brazil is remarkable.SILVA GO GUIDE THE LAMBS INTO GREENER PASTURES OF TROPIES!!

No disrespect to Silva, but TOURE TOURE TOURE. King Kolo will prove to be the leader Arsenal will be in dire need of this next season. And though he’s only 26, don’t doubt his esperience. He’s started playing for ASEC Mimosas at nineteen, and has World Cup experience with the Ivory Coast. Arguments for Gilberto are legit, but I go with Toure, who if presented with the arm band, will wear it for Arsenal for a long time.

I would say Kolo however, due to the African Cup of Nations mid-way through the season, he’d miss a large chunk of the season, and you never want a captain to be out for long spells (remember last year with Titi!) so I think it will be Gilberto, then in about 3 years when I believe he’ll no longer be first choice, then Kolo can take the armband.
