Hangzhou Greentown Highlights, Plus Other News

Nasri Greentown
Well I guess your esteemed bloggers should all get the slacker of the week award this time, since none of us were able to watch today’s friendly. Actually, JG may have watched, but he’s currently unable to really blog or comment while he’s visiting in Peru for about three weeks. Hopefully he’ll be back and blogging in less than two weeks.

Based on the reports I read, we certainly had the better of the chances, especially in the second half. But we were unable to break through with the winner, so it ended 1-1. (Sound familiar?) FredJacob was kind enough to provide a good video link for us, so I’ve enclosed that below.

Now that the Asian trip is complete, the team will be heading back home again. I didn’t really expect any major transfer news to come out while the team was away, so maybe this week will be more interesting. I’m sure we’ll have the official unveiling of Gervinho as well.

Anyway, turning to the latest transfer news, probably the biggest thing right now would be the recent remarks from Wenger and Roberto Mancini regarding Nasri. Basically, Wenger is upset that Mancini would openly talk about wanting to bring in Nasri. Ho hum. I know that’s not the way that Arsenal does business, but it also seems pretty much normal in modern soccer. The bigger news in all of this for me is that it’s pretty clear that Man City want to purchase Nasri, and reports seem to indicate they’ll go as high as £27 million. That again leaves me with mixed emotions. If I knew we would invest that in new talent, I’d be all for it – even if Nasri were willing to sign an extension. For me, he just doesn’t seem like a £27 million sort of player. On top of that, it seems that lately the talk has been that Nasri will leave for free next year, so that type of money would certainly be preferable to losing him for nothing.

Moving on to other news, it seems that Romelu Lukaku has been linked to Arsenal lately. Normally I wouldn’t even feel a need to write about it, but since I’ve read this report in numerous outlets, I guess I should at least mention it. Reports also say that Lukaku’s agent has met with Arsenal officials about a possible move. While I still don’t see this one happening, I also have mixed emotions on this front as well. Lukaku is considered to be one of the brightest young talents in Europe. But if we spent somewhere in the £17 million range for him, what would that do to the rest of our transfer budget? And how would an 18-year-old from the Belgian league factor in to a lineup that already boasts some pretty good attacking options? And if we really did have that sort of money to spend on another player, wouldn’t we be helped out a lot more by Leighton Baines, who would be a walk-in starter with Premier League experience? Anyway, I just don’t see this one happening for many reasons. Ultimately, I think he’ll end up at a place like Chelsea or Madrid, where they can afford luxury purchases like this one.

In a bit of transfer news that’s more believable, Denilson is rumored to be heading to Sao Paulo on loan. We took 23 players to Asia, and 22 played against Hangzhou. The only one not playing was Denilson. Now, whether that’s due to an injury or to something else, I’m not sure. But I am pretty sure that roughly 97% of Arsenal fans hope we loan him to Sao Paulo, so we’ll wait and see how this one turns out. I think it will happen though.
Enrique
In other hopeful news, it seems that Newcastle’s Jose Enrique wants to play in the Champions League this season, and Alan Pardew would be willing to sell him to Arsenal. Of the four teams in the Premier League who will participate in the Champions League this year, I would have to think we’re the only one in need of a left back. Or at least, according to fans we’re in need. Convincing Wenger to make a bid might be a completely different story, but at least there are a few reports out there that indicate there’s interest on the Arsenal side as well.

Well I think that’s about it for now. I’m hoping my next blog will finally be the much-anticipated really super cool blog. But the timing of that is not really in my hands. Maybe by tomorrow though. Until then, have a great weekend.

Having a crappy day so thought I'll take it out on the moaners and groaners of the transfer window. If you sign for a team that has not been challenging for the League title and playing champions league in recent years, what gives you the Idea that they will be challenging for the league and playing champions league league consistently anytime soon.
And if you sign for the team, with the Idea of using them as a stepping stone, why sign a really long-term contract when you know you might want to move on very soon. Players sign long-term contracts for security, and so do clubs. How would a player (lets say Modric just to suit my purposes) feel if contracted to a Club for about 3-4 years on a very good contract, if the club were to come out one day and say your play does not suit our ambitions so we would like to sell you to Notts County(no disrespect meant). In my view he will probably say "Screw you" I have a long-term contract with the Spuds. So in the same vein I feel if a club have a player on a long-term deal and another club says we want to sign you, either the buying club coughs up a "shitload" of money or the selling club says "screw you" he's on a long-term deal. And if a player wants to move on from a team in the near future, well, don't sign a freaking long deal. Anyway, this is directed at Modric and C***. Hey, he knows Barca have wanted him for so long, he claims He's always wanted to return to Barca some time in the Future, so why sign such a long deal. If its security he wanted, well guess what, Arsenal wanted the same thing so if he know wants out, he made his own bed so he might as well lie on it. Not to say Cesc is a moaner or groaner but he could very easily cut out this mess. Just got carried away somewhere along the line. So back to Modric, if Tottenham don't want to sell him big deal, its within their rights. He's should just "shut up" and and mess up the Spuds team spirit (can't an Arsenal fan want the downfall of the Spuds). Other than that any player for has any desire to leave his current team should just run down his contract like Clichy and Nasri did, after thats the best and easiest way to screw over your current club. Hope you get the Idea. Sorry for wasting your time with this crap, but as I said having a crappy day.

Will take on the whole of Catalunya next.

So true and if a Manage decides to let a player rot on the bench, that Manage would be the worst person in the world

  • Heman

Anyone would think Wenger WANTS to be hounded out of our club the way he's behaving. The last thing we need right now is even more kiddies. What we needed this summer was AFC's promised "statement of intent" - a marquee signing to shake our rivals - followed by a series of top-class experienced winners with heart and steel to replace our lily-livered lightweight bottlers. And what have we got? Jenkinson, Gervinho and now this Carlos Kickaball. Pathetic - as are the Arsene-lickers who readily excuse this sort of dereliction of duty while desperately glossing over what happened last season (and the one before that and the one before that etc etc). I know the window isn't closed yet but, really, what are the chances of Wenger assembling a squad in the next six weeks which will make us truly competitive? Close to zero. As I said when some deluded folk called for Wenger to be given more time, it'll be another wasted summer, followed by another wasted season. Time's well and truly up, Wenger. You and your regime are a shambles.

Or maybe not.  From ESPNSoccernet:  "20.53 Arsenal outbid for player shocker: Joel Campbell's father, Humberto tells La Nation. “We got another very good offer from one of the great English teams, which is just as interesting in sporting terms to Arsenal, but also more economically. I will meet now with my wife and together we will make the decision whether to sign with Arsenal, the other club, or wait for something else.”"

Does anyone else think that teams like ManU, Chelsea and Man City, in addition to their own scouting, have a policy to just offer a bit more to any young player that Arsene is linked with?  Probably just a conspiracy theory, but rally seems like Arsenal needs to re-discover how to complete a transfer quickly and QUIETLY.

  • Homey_Mills

Yeah, I'm with you, SJGgumby.  At the same time, this is another Jenkinson-type signing.  Or maybe more like Miyaichi.  Anyway, someone who won't contribute this season.  I'm still hoping for something to ease our worries about the present, and not the future.

  • SJGgumby

I feel like anyone on this Chile team would be terrific.  Pretty amazing display they're putting on right now - but without much of a payoff (just tied it 1-1).  Perfect for Arsenal.

  • Homey_Mills

You know he's from Costa Rica though, right?

  • SJGgumby

Yup - that was just in response to your statement about hoping for someone for the present.  Probably could've been clearer.

  • Homey_Mills

Oh, yes.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.  We've been linked with Vidal a few times, but I guess that would only happen if Cesc left.

  • FredJacob

i hope Ade beat him up like he did Toure in training, or even Balloteli

  • One of my gooner fellows was lucky enough to get his chance to take a photo with Denilson in HangZhou. It seems it's the last photo the Brazilian took with gooners in an Arsenal Team shirt.

    A few things:

--Your coach is insane. Nasri is not going to renew with Arsenal. If Citeh want to pay 27m for him, that's a no-brainer. Would Wenger then spend that money? Doubtful. But it strikes me as absurd that he would risk costing the club that much money on a leap of faith. I'm not that familiar with Arsenal and its doings re: Nasri, but that seems mad to me. You just can't let a player of that quality leave on a free. January window? Possibly, but the price goes down even more. We got Afellay for 3m, a steal. Same situation as Nasri. After a while it becomes "Gotta get something for the player."

--The question isn't why Cruijff is the only person connected (loosely, as eminence grise) to the club is speaking sensibly about Fabregas. It's why isn't Fabregas speaking about Fabregas. A simple "Arsenal is my team, I want to win silver here" would fix all the blather. Graham Hunter had some excellent comments on the Fabregas situation that are worth seeking out. Essentially, Xavi was asked a question, and spoke of what he was told by the player himself. The view of that will depend upon club allegiance, I rather imagine.

Cruijff is right. But I've been saying that since all of this started, as well as the fact that I'd be against signing him, even at 20m.

But Wenger has the answer to both Fabregas and Nasri: Make the moves that will solidify a team that is so close to trophies. Players rarely want to leave teams that celebrate trophies, particularly world-class teams. Of course I'm one to talk, since we have done absolutely nothing in the transfer window to date.

  • Augustus Jonah

I agree with you on quite a lot, of the stuff you said, but do you not think Barca are being disrespectful to Arsenal, I mean can't Barca ask their players to stop saying stuff like that about players from other Teams. It looks like something that was discussed at a training camp.

Sandro R: Hey, Puyol get ur guys to keep mouthing off about Fabregas to any "bloody"                     reporter who cares to listen.
    Puyol: Sure will start myself.

I mean, very few in the current Barca team have kept their mouths shut. I think its basically those who don't play much or miss training.
But seriously, If Barca are really serious about getting Fabregas without burning any bridges (leading to Arsenal) won't they be better off getting their players to keep quiet about this and quietly negotiating with Arsenal.
And who's this Mayor talking about Cesc being Kidnapped and using the Honour in the same story. If he understands the phrase behave honourably he probably would have "shut up". And what does he mean by the clowning must stop. Arsenal simply says "we don't wanna sell" its Barca who are clowning (no offence meant) about. I mean if Barca actually respect Arsenal as they do would they have conducted their Business in the press. Seems like Barca are just messing with Arsenal.
Oh yea, sorry if I used any language that was too strong.
And I actually like your writing would be reading more of ya stuff from now on.
But just tell Barca to keep their hands and tongues off our Captain. Lol.

  • Rico

I mean no disrespect in this at all but I don't quite understand the meaning of your posts. you are a Barca fan but you are on an Arsenal fan-based website in which you insult the coach by saying he's insane, questioning his motives and actions and you didn't expect to ruffle the feathers of the people who are Arsenal fans and take the time out of their day to read and write on this forum.
Sure enough you may have a point in what you are saying but doesn't that seem like a bit of an insult to coming from a Barcelona fan?

  • arsenalistasforkevin

Just wanted to say I really look forward to you stopping in here and reading what you have to say, even if I don't agree with a minority of it. Please do come by again, it seems the name-calling section of our fan base is overrepresented today.

  • Totally agree, if the 27m figure is accurate or close. If we don't sell, then try to get something in January (10m? 15m?) if would be like spending 12-17m on a player for a half-season, which no person in their right mind would do. Well, excepting, I suppose, Barca and Ibra, but that was a special case of bizarre transfer madness. If City are offering 27m, take it. And specially because, as Homey pointed out in an earlier piece, he won't improve the City midfield that much if at all.

And Kevin, don't mind the numpties.

  • Why hasn't Fabregas spoken out? Simple, because he legitimately wants to move on. There is really no questioning that, so he's not going to say anything otherwise. The point here is why hasn't Barca just offered up the extra 5-10 mill to secure him? Simple, because they are trying to undermine Arsenal. That is where Johan is correct, and that is what all of us Arsenal fans have been ranting & raving about. Offer up the proper $$, and he's all yours...simple as that. Barca show lack of respect because they consistently spend well more than the $$ required for Francesc on other players they tuck away or don't use, but can't spend the right amount of $$ on him because they are trying to one-up Wenger...its garbage.

  • Bertrand

I did not expect a Barca fan to understand the meaning of respect, and I was not disappointed.

Crawl back to the hole you came from. Thanks.

  • Crwall

And I did not expect Arsenal to win anything, and hey.. I was not disappointed.

Not disappointed for 6 years, 1 months, and 27 days.

  • FredJacob

Dude where are your from, You know what i sure you are nothing but a BANDWAGONIST you decided decided to back them just because they were winning things just remember it would come to an end and you will see what scum your beloved club is since you will be jumping on another sides BANDWAGON

  • Don't feed the trolls, man.

  • Kxevin

Not sure where the "respect" notion came from, but it's why the Hunter comments are worth listening to. Part of his contention is that the press and fans want players to speak frankly, then castigate them when they do. He also questions the idea of Xavi's comments being "disrespectful." It's a very interesting view, irrespective of what Xavi said.

And I don't do Web bickering, so I will just say that I have commented here before, when the space was under different management. "Crawl back to the hole you came from" is a new one for me, however, and simmers with irony when considered in the context of the "respect" that you believe I don't understand.

Nowhere within my comment is there anything disrespectful, or in any way, shape or form anything that construes an advocacy of Xavi's comments. There is an advocacy of Cruijff's comments, as they mate with my views on the matter, if we are indeed interested in signing the player. I hope we aren't. And the question about Fabregas is still valid. He can resolve everything, and doesn't choose to. This is a question that is rarely asked or considered.

I don't see him transferring to us, which makes me very happy. As for the rest, I'd urge you to re-read my initial comment and react to it, rather than a knee-jerk reaction to any and all things related to FC Barcelona. Because in any and all things related to blogs and message boards, I ALWAYS comport myself with respect.

  • Bertrand

    That's great.

Because calling Wenger 'insane' (coach of the decade) oozes respect.

    Just don't talk anymore please.

  • TJ

Kxevin, you've always been my favorite Barca blogger. I really appreciate your presence around here, and you always know what you're talking. This Bertrand and Jacob guy must be new around here, because if they remembered last summer, you were the one normal Barca fan on the site. You're cool in my book good sir.

  • FredJacob

why the hell would i even want to remember a BArca fan what are they suppose to be important or something, i suggest the two of you go suck a duck

  • TJ

I hate Barca just as much, if not more than the next guy. I wish Xavi, Busquets, Valdes, Alves, Puyol, Pique, and all those dicks go tear as many acls as possible. But that being said, Kxevin is a pretty objective, knowledgeable man, unlike yourself. So calm down Fred, you're making us Gooners look bad.

  • Agree with you, though its pretty typical of this poster - FredJacob.

  • Homey_Mills

    Kxevin,
Good to see you back here.  I quoted you a couple weeks ago in one of my first blogs.  Oh, and don't pay much attention to Bertrand.  He's constantly calling me vile names too.  I'm a bit surprised he keeps reading.

  • Homey_Mills

Why is it that of all the people associated with Barca, only Johan Cruyff can talk sensibly about Cesc?  The other comments are from another world sometimes.  Not really even worth putting in a blog, I don't think.

  • Well that's easy. Johan Cruyff is Dutch.

  • AlexM

    Touché.

  • Homey_Mills

They've been known to have a few head-cases of their own over the years.

  • Only because they are too honest and willing to speak their minds

  • But isn't that what Cesc's future teammates are doing, also?

  • shush. It's only allowed when my fellow dutchmen speak out ;)

  • RyanJ

I agree with the Lukaku comments Homey, its always good to have young talent come thru, but the 18mil price tag seems a bit steep for an 18 year old who hasn't been proven at the next level. Also, it would be madness not to sell Nasri for the now 27 mil that Citeh may offer for him, especially understanding that he's in the last months of his contract, plus he's stated his desire to move on as well. The manager knows a lot more than us fans currently know about whats going with the Nasri situation and why he intends to fight to keep him. Hopefully the end we will benefit from it.

  • Gigi_man

HI guys, still here still read, but over here there is a mid-term-tax-thing that makes us lawyers work hard and be paid peanuts..so thats that.
Been reading and agreeing on almost everything, keep up the good work, even if some of us dont comment too much we always read and look up to your posts
