Hijacking a Liverpool move?
By: travis | July 12th, 2008The rumor mill keeps on churning today, with the latest reports hinting that Arsenal have made contact with Aston Villa about midfielder Gareth Barry. I don’t know much I can buy into it, but it would be a good move if Gilberto is indeed leaving. Barry could play a role similar to Flamini, with Fabregas pushing forward while Barry would play a more defensive minded role. It does go against Wenger policy of buying English players, but perhaps he is looking to quiet those who say Arsenal has no English players. It’s also a good move because it would mean Liverpool don’t get Barry.
The latest news from Adebayor is that his price is lower, but Milan may be out because of a possible deal for Ronaldinho. It seems like an either/or situation with Milan. They’ll either sign Adebayor or Ronaldinho, but both seems highly unlikely. Or maybe neither. Point is, if Adebayor remains a Gunner he will have some work to do to win over fan support.
I found an interesting article by The Limey, a CNNSI.com soccer column that takes a look at what an economic recession may do to the EPL. Arsenal is among the teams mentioned, as they are one of many teams saddled in debt. I blame Roman Abramovich for the high wages, as his wallet has created a lot of problems. Here’s to a decrease in player wage demands and ludicrous transfer fees. Definitely worth a glance.

Get your facts straight man.
“In 2002-03, in the Premier League as a whole, the wages-to-turnover ratio was 61 percent. In 2006-07, it had only increased to 63 percent. The arrival of Abramovich has had a limited effect on the proportions spent on wages.”

I didn’t present it as fact. I just casually said I blamed him for it. Fair enough. I can still blame him for that two percent increase right?
