New away kit, Hleb might be gone, and more
By: travis | July 14th, 2008
Perhaps this silly season’s only loyal player, Cesc Fabregas is modeling the new away kit for next season. Funny how all the rumors from this season have swirled and yet here is Cesc in the new kit. Hopefully that means that he won’t be leaving. Seriously, is there a better option for captain next season? If so I’m unaware.
Other news - the Hleb deal is supposed to be settled today with The Daily Mail reporting that he’ll be announced as a new signing at the Nou Camp. Looks like this could be the real deal. Then again, so do a lot of these rumors. I have a hard time caring about his departure.
Andrei Arshavin continues to try and believe his own hype, saying that he would prefer to play for Arsenal. Not for the £18m (give or take) that Zenit wants in exchange for him. I think he’s a solid player, but shouldn’t be signed for that much because of a few strong performances at the Euros.
Word is also going around that Barcelona have proposed a Eto’o for Adebayor swap that would include Barca paying out somewhere between £10m and £15m. At first glance, I would hesitate to take that. Eto’o certainly has heaps of talent, but his recent injury history casts a doubt on his future. Then again, Adebayor’s valuation of himself has skyrocketed after just one good season, so maybe Arsene should take the money, the player, and run. At 27, his signing would increase the average age of the club. With all this silly news going around, it’s sometimes hard to forget that the first preseason match is only five days away. Exciting times.

you obviously missed the whole UEFA cup campaign last season to dismiss Ashravin so nonchalantly

does arsenal have any plans to add a holding midfielder or centerback? i think both are a major issue (along with depth in general)… the reason i ask is because senderos sucks and i only want him playing against hull… maybe…

so flamini is gone, gilberto, and now hleb (though the last two guys didn’t make much of an impact last season anyways).
any plans to fill those spots? or is arsenal going to crumble again from a lack of squad depth?
