The Current Thierry Henry Vs. The Next Thierry Henry

By: Trent | June 18th, 2007

babel.jpgLet’s get the bottom-line answer out of the way: I don’t know if the Captain is leaving. But many sources who once laughed at the idea seem resigned to Thierry Henry’s departure to Barcelona (or Milan to a lesser extent). It’s always hard to imagine a legend leaving your club, especially prior to said legend’s inevitable demise. The Arsenal Board says that whether Henry is sold to Barca or not is a question left to the manager. And Arsene Wenger, clandestine meetings or no, hasn’t said one way or another.

And if the current Thierry Henry leaves Arsenal, the man that Marco van Basten calls the next Thierry Henry may be on his way to the Emirates Stadium. That youngster, Ryan Babel, has already confirmed his dream to play in North London. After the jump, check out Babel in action.

In other player movement news, Arsenal have completed the signing of Havard Nordveit. The sixteen-year-old Norwegian was purchased for a reported £2 million.

Let me start off by stating that Ryan Babel will be a world class player, no doubt about it! His movement is excellent, he’s fast andd incredibly strong, he’s good in the air and he’s grown up through the Ajax academy so you know he has a fantastic football brain and a winning mentality. If Thierry leaves then I will be devastated! He may not be the player that he was a couple of seasons ago, that is not the main reason why I am desperate for him to stay. The main reson is what I like to call ‘The Vieira Effect’. When he left he was not at his peak on the pitch, however it was his influence in the dressing room and the impression that he made on youngsters that was so important. Finally we are looking like we don’t miss him highly, what with Cesc replacing him succesfully and I feel if Thierry does leve then it will have the same effect, even perhaps stronger than previously. I’d just like to add that it would be a dream to have Babel join as I think he’d make an imediate impact and take to the premiership like a fish to water.

Moving to liverpool was perhaps a mistake for babel as there style of football really does’nt suit him. If he was playing for a fast moving/passing team like Arsenal/Spurs i think he’d be a higher rated premiership player.

As a liverpool fan i hope he prooves me wrong as i think he’s a brilliant player.
